~ar'K Board Meeting
ae~:t. 2, 1970
u
Eat~.z~:~ates indicated that completion of the entrance sign and shelter.
a;nd •tn.A second shelter within the park are realistic possibilities.
~'he Jaycees time-table calls for completion by late fall, 1970.
2
Tr.e sites for the shelters were chosen by Don Brauer .and Jaycee
representatives. The entrance site was chosen because it will be a
drop-off and pick-up point for children and the interior site selected
~~ecause it is a passive area where one might sit and enjoy the view.
~'he materials used in the structure are similar to those used in
the playground. structure at the south end of the park. They are
designed to be maintenance free and maintain the natural theme of the
park.
"mith moved to accept the plan as submitted by the Jaycees. Dahl
c~conded ` Motion carried
Reveiw of the Com rehensive Park plan
C:~uncil action initiating this item was discussed. The Council has
requested that the Park Board review the comprehensive park plan
r_c-:~Zpiled in 1966. Particular concern was expressed over the building
•~o b? constructed at Richard J. Hansen Park. Monies were set aside
~~~o-th for a temporary shelter to be used during the 1970 -71 skating
season and for a permanent shelter to be constructed in the spring of
1971. The type and scope of the permanent building is of primary
r.;ncern to the comprehensive plan review.
Gunderman suggested that the Director of Parks and Recreation develop
guide lines for the Board to follow in reviewing the plan. This should
nclude a time-table calling for completion of the review before
Christmas, 1970 and information as to what constitutes a revised park
t-plan. It was suggested that building plans for Hansen Park should
y;e completed by Christmas to insure actual occupancy of the structure
before the skating season of 1971-72. Gunderman stated that to be
effective, any projects included in the revised plan must be flexible
enough to adopt to changing conditions, particularly finances. Smith
moved that the Director develop guidelines for the Park Board's use in
~-e~,=ie~s~ing the comprehensive park plan to be submitted at the October
_~!eeting. Sherlock seconded - Motion carried.
~e~~rary Shelter for_Hansen Park
Tine ~>resent status of plans for the temporary shelter at Richard J.
~a~!sen Park were discussed. It was suggested that a type of building
,,^~_~ald be purchased that would be used at Hansen Park for one winter
~r..d then moved to another site to obtain additional use from it. This
-~~~?uld be more economic than building a very cheap structure and then
=gearing it down after one skating season. .Some type of pre-fob
r~=.-.a.~ding would suit this plan. Smith agreed that this plan would be
mop>t sensible in terms of money invested. It was brought out that
temporar~> utility services would have to be provided but rest room
