+.
Park Board Meeting 4
s Sept.. 2, 1970
Park hockey area. Barnhill seconded.
Weissman asked where the money would come from to pay the additional
cost. Tt was stated the request would be in the form of a change
order to the project and funds would be charged against the bond
issue.
Motion failed - 2 ayes - (Barnhill,Smith)
4 napes - (Dahl, Hagemeyer, Sherlock, Weissman)
Abstained (Gunderman)
A statistical report on the summer program was presented to the Board.
Concern was expressed over the amount of vandalism at Foss Road Park.
It was requested that a letter be written to Mr. Arthur Dickey, park
building architect, expressing disappointment with the removable walls
on the buildings. It appeared that this was the cause of the increase
in property destruction. The suggestion was made to publicize the
amount of vandalism to increase public awareness. However, the feeling
among Board members was that this would only encourage others while
indicting a lot of innocent park-goers.
Barnhill questioned the reason for the decrease in the number of
rescues required at the beach despite the greatly increased attendance.
This was attributed to tighter control of floating devices and the
addition of a loud speaker as a discipline aid.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert M. Wicklund
Director of Parks and Recreation
