Park Board~eting r 2
a^pt:. 2, 1
E~tiTrates indicated that completion of the entrance sign and shelter
and the second shelter within the park are realistic possibilities.
I'ze Jaycees time-table calls for completion by late fall, 1970.
~~he site: for the shelters were chosen by Don Brauer and Jaycee
representatives. The entrance site was chosen because it will be a
drop-off and pick-up point for children and the interior site selected
because it is a passive area where one might sit and enjoy the view.
fi,lze materials used in the structure are similar to those used in
the playground structure at the south end of the park. They are
designed to be maintenance free and maintain the natural theme of the
park .
Smith moved to accept the plan as submitted by the Jaycees. Dahl
Ceconded - Motion carried
xeveiw of the Co_m~rehensive Park Plan
Ccancil action initiating this item was discussed. The Council has
r~:quested that the Park Board review the comprehensive park plan
c~:~ny filed in 1966. Particular concern was expressed over the buildi.n.c~
to be constructed at Richard J. Hansen Park. Monies were set aside
?:~~th for a temporary shelter to be used during the 1970-71 skating
season and for a permanent shelter to be constructed in the spring of_
1971. The type and scope of the permanent building is of primary
concern to the comprehensive plan review.
Gunc~erman suggested that the Director of Parks and Recreation develop
g~iide lines for the Board to follow i.n reviewing the plan. This should
include a time-table calling for completion of the review before
Christmas, 1970 and information as to what constitutes a revised park
plan. It was suggested that building plans for Hansen Park should
bA completed by Christmas to insure actual occupancy of the structure
before the skating season of 1971-72. Gunderman stated that to be
effective, any projects included in the revised plan must be flexible
enough to adopt to changing conditions, particularly finances. Smith
moved that the Director develop guidelines for the .Park Board's use in
re~~~.ewing the comprehensive park plan to be submitted at the October
meeting. Sherlock seconded - Motion carried.
'r~z=rn;~:~rary Shelter for Hansen Park
rjie ~aresent status of plans for the temporary shelter at Richard J.
~IaTisen Park were discussed. It was suggested that a type of building
cc~•uld be purchased that would be used at Hansen Park for one winter
::~.r.d then moved to another site to obtain additional use from it. This
-,=ould be more economic than building a very cheap structure and then
~a.i.ng it down after one sf.ating season. Some type of pre-fab
~.:~s.~:L~3inq would suit this plan. Smith agreed that this plan would be
r~~c~:~i: '~!=.~-i~le in terms of money invested.. It was brought out that
te:nporaN~: ~xtility services would have to be provided but rest room
