Park Board
Oct. 21
Page 3
Gunderman pointed out that the amount of monies received has not met
earlier expectations as the timing of application conflicted with
austerity programs and financial belt tightening at the federal level.
The fourth step of the plan called. for the establishment of a continued
relationship with the Planner and this has been accomplished. However,
it was suggested that the Board review this aspect of the plan to
specifically define the type and extent of this relationship.
In discussing the capital improvement programs for each site, it was
brought out that Pike Lake, Foss Road, and Sunnyside parks are
essentially completed as planned. The park building and second phase
of development are lacking at Hansen Park and no on-site work has been
completed at Long Lake. In discussing each site, the following
suggestions were made;
1. Possible lighting of park areas on an informal basis.
2. Insure that each park site is officially designated as a
park by the Village Council.
3. Check the status of the Rice Creek site as to the proceeds
of the property sale, assessments due for the road, and
present park boundaries and acreage.
It was brought out that a portion of the development incomplete at
Hansen and Long Lake was never intended to be accomplished through
the Bond Issue of 1967.
Volunteer Work
Hagemeyer moved that Smith work with the administration. on a program
of volunteer help in maintaining hockey rinks. Dahl seconded -
motion carried.
November 4, Agenda
The Board requested that the agenda for the regular meeting of
November 4 include reports on park vandalism, the Long Lake
condemnation proceedings and the effect of the 1971 budget on park
programs.
MRPA Conference
The Park Board was invited to attend the Minnesota Recreation and
Park Association conference at the Curtis Hotel, November 3, 4 and 5.
A copy of the program will be enclosed with the minutes and members
are encouraged to drop in if possible.
The meeting adjourned at 10°55
NOTEo On contacting Mr. Brauer, I found he is unable to attend the
meeting of November 18, but will be in attendance at the
meeting of November 24.
Robert M. Wicklund
Director of Parks & Recreation
