PARK BOARD MEETING
December 2, 1970
The meeting was called to order at 8:02
Board Members Presents Dahl, Gunderman, Hagemeyer, Sherlock, Smith
and Council Representative Moen
Absent: Barnhill, rrTeissman
Others Present: Robert Wicklund, Director of Parks and Recreation
Mrs. E. E. Fisher, Ross Metzger, Representatives of
the Hansen Park Association
The minutes of the Special Meeting of November 24, 1970, were approved.
as submitted.
Hansen Park Fencing
Representatives from the Hansen Park Association appeared before
the Board to discuss the plans for fencing the perimeter of Hansen
Park. The consensus of adjoining residents, according to those
present, was in favor of fencing.
It was explained that the original plan was to wait until the park
had been in use for awhile and then poll the residents block by block
as to their desires on the fencing issue. Tf more than 50% of the
residents on a given block want fencing, then it will be installed_
If more than 50°!° did not want a fence, it would not be installed.
It was also suggested that polling take place only on those blocks
which were over half developed. Hagemeyer asked how long it would
take to install the fence and from where the funds would come. It
was stated that financing would be through the park fund and
installation would be a relatively fast procedure. Gunderman said he
felt that in terms of cost this was not a large capital-outlay item
so obtaining approval for installing should not be too difficult.
Smith endorsed the idea of waiting .until the park is operating before
polling the residents. Mr. Metzger speaking as a resident whose home
adjoins the park agreed that waiting to assess the impact of the
traffic on the park was the best course.
Smith moved that any further action on fencing be deferred until
Pauly. Second, Dahl - Motion carried
A resident asked if additional backstops would be installed. It was
stated that as the need arose this issue would be considered.
