Park Board
December 2, 1970
Page 2
Hansen Park Road
Gunderman reviewed the discussion from the last meeting on the road.
Requests were made to open the road and post speed limits. The road
has been opened, but information indicated that it was not legal in
the State of Minnesota to post any public road at a speed less than
30 MPH. Gunderman said that exceptions can be made by requesting
dispensation from the Highway Commissioner, It was requested that a
letter be sent to the State requesting a lower speed limit for the
park road.
A resident brought up the condition of the road stating it was not in
very good shape. The Board replied that it was not intended to be
a commercial street and that it would be maintained to keep it usable_
Another resident asked if snowmobiles were allowed to use the road.
It was explained that the Snowmobile Ordinance prevented snowmobiles
from being in the parks. Other types of vehicular traffic were
restricted to the road and parking lots by the Vehicular Traffic in
Parks Ordinance. It would be difficult to discriminate against
motorcycles, mini-bikes, etc. on this particular road.
Planning Commission
Dahl reported on the Planning Commission's first comprehensive planning
meeting. She stated that it was more or less of a brain-storming
session. Items discussed included zoning to control population, ideal
zoning as apposed to what is possible and potential commercial and
business centers. It was suggested that only one service center could
be supported in New Brighton and this would likely be on the west side
of the Village such as 694 and Silver Lake Road as that was the
residential side of New Brighton.
The Planning Commission requested the Park Board inform them of its;.
plans relating to future land acquisition. Smith moved that a general
policy statement be sent to the Planning Commission outlining the
Park Board's goals in terms of total park land. Sherlock seconded -
motion carried.
Dahl requested that the Board keep the Planning Commission informed
on the progress of the studies of the PRD Ordinance and Platting
Ordinance.
Department Report
The Department reported that the resolution requesting the retention
of Dickey and Associates for the permanent Hansen Park shelter was on
the Council agenda for-the next meeting.
