Park Board Minutes <br />June 3, 1970 <br />emphasize flexibility within the design and multi- <br />purpose use of the various facilities. The concept of <br />the entire building will be presented with detail on <br />the first construction phase< <br />Mr. Gunderman inguired as to the situation regarding the islands in <br />and the perimeter around the pond at 7th Street. This is a question <br />that can be answered only by time. The island elevation has not <br />maintained the projected level and any development on it will be <br />held up. Both the islands and shoreline are unstable at present. <br />Mrs. Eugene Fisher, a resident, complimented the design concept and <br />]_andscaping of the park site. <br />2 <br />The entire Board expressed concern over the time schedule of the <br />7th Street building. Mr. Gunderman stated that delaying the proposal <br />by the architect until the July meeting would make it difficult to <br />be operating by the coming skating season. Mr. Smith stated that <br />attempting to hurry the project might result in inferior construction. <br />The Board directed Mr. Wicklund to attempt to set up a special meeting <br />with the architect for June 10, 1970. <br />7th Street Park Name <br />It was requested that this item be tabled until the entire Board is <br />present. <br />Mrs. Dahl reported that the Jaycees were considering the Park Board's <br />proposal for a Richard Hansen Fund and would communicate further on <br />this subject. <br />Summer Programs <br />The beach staff has been secured and the opening is shceduled for <br />June 6. All of the equipment has been refurbished. The Sanitarian <br />has taken a bacteria count and the water is well within the safe <br />range. The playground staff has been hired and shelters will open <br />on June 8 with Sunnyside and Foss Road operating .from 1:00-9:00 and <br />Pike Lake from 5:00-9:00. Preliminary efforts will be made this <br />summer to set up a basic playground recreation program. <br />Mr. Gunderman inquired as to promotion for the beach opening. He <br />suggested announcements be made in the schools and in the Minneapolis <br />and Saint Paul papers. <br />
