CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
'~~
~'
Agenda Section: vT T T-2
Report Number: 82--206
Report0ate: August 18, 1982
EM DESCRIPTION:
CITIZEN SURVEY
DEPT. HEAD'S APPROVAL:
MANAGER'S REVIEW/.RECOMMENDATION:
No comments to supplement this report Comments below/attached .
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY (attach supplemental sheets as necessary):
Explanation
In response to the findings of .the Citizen Questionnaire, staff has compil c
a list of action steps that scan be used as a guide to improve service
concerns:-
I. Road Maintenance
About 30~ of the residents rated road maintenance as fair while an
dditional 13$ stated it was poor. Perhaps in an article in the City
y Hall newsletter it might be possible to review the Comprehensive Street
Improvement Plan designed by Les Proper.
II. Water Service
About 15~ of the residents rated the water service as poor. The City
Engineer admits that in a few areas of New Brighton the water is dis-
colored and tastes bad because of its high mineral content. A proposal
has been brought to Council regarding the possibilities of an iron removal
plant for the City water system. Staff will update residents by way of
the newsletter and perhaps the Bulletin on the water situation, wells,
water taste, etc.
III. Diseased Tree Program
Fifty percent had no opinion or gave no response regarding the program..
Perhaps a well detailed article in the newsletter on what the program is,
the benefits to City residents, and how much it costs the City should be
written.
Recommendation
To review this report and to direct staff to act upon the specified
areas plus any. others of concern Proposed newsletter articles can be
included in the next edition of the City Hall newsletter, expected to
be published in October.
Curt Holewa, Administrative Intern
