September 1, 1982 Park Board Minutes <br />Page 5 <br />Van Hatten stated he is willing to draft a proposal and have it <br />ready for the next Park. Board meeting. <br />Anderson said that in response to Carlson, don't want to see the <br />transfer ..delayed. Don't think it is necessary. <br />Carlson said he is not speaking in terms of the. Council but'the <br />public. The public wants to know. when the money is transferred. <br />Tell them now how we want to handle the money.. Want them to know <br />it is something we have been thinking about for a long time. <br />Anderson said he likes Van Hatten's idea. <br />Carlson and Johnson .said they would be willing to help Van Hatten.. <br />Motion by Van Hatten, seconded by Carlson, to recommend that the <br />money from the sale of land from Long Lake Park be put into a <br />permanent fund and_the interest be designated as follows: <br />-The entire cost of New Brighton's share of operation <br />and maintenance of Long Lake Park be taken .from the <br />interest-from the sale of Long Lake Park <br />-A fixed amount be added to the fund yearly to increase <br />the dollar value <br />-The remainder of the interest be used for park purposes <br />as necessary. <br />Johnson asked if anything should be added-about not touching. the <br />principal. <br />Van Hatter said the intent is clear. <br />Johnson said we could add that only the interest be used. <br />Van Hatten said we can't tell them they can't. <br />Motion by Carlson, seconded by Olson, to amend the motion <br />recommending that the principal should not be touched. <br />Motion carried., Van Hatten opposed. <br />Motion with amendment carried. <br />V. New Business <br />A. Citizen Survey <br />Gunderman said he-was pleased that on .the survey parks did so well. <br />Don't think we should overact because if we would have listened <br />to the survey years back there would not be any parks in New <br />Brighton Feel it is the Park Board's job to direct and make <br />decisions. <br />Fornell said that on one of the survey questions people stated <br />they were not in favor of acquisition of parks. Tt could be just <br />the: way it was worded too'.. <br />
