- - ~°R51~i~P*At~Z
Mayor Gregory Harcus, Council Members; Robert Benke, Steve Schmidt,
Roger Bloomquist, Janet Janecek, City Manager James Fornell, Park
Board. Chairman Arlyn Gunderman.
Dear Addressees:
It is our understanding that on this, the Third of March, 1982, the
New Brighton City Council, New Brighton Park Board along with the
City Manager have convened to hear public comment on the matter of
the Long Lake Regional Park Master Plan.
The signatory herein representing the Long Lake Improvement Associ-
ation and individuals constituting such organization desire to pro-
vide the following comments.
Certain points should be stated for a historical perspective:
' The land was orginally purchased in 1972 for the purpose of
creating a community parka
' A survey conducted in 1978 showed New Brighton citizens
favored a natures park:
The land includes woodlands and marsh areas, providincr a
habitat for numerous wildlife species which would be
endangered by overdevelopment of the area.
' Usage of Long Lake by citizens of New Brighton for sc
ming, fishing and boating is already high and g.reatl~
increased use could create safety and pollution prob7
as well as deplete the fish population.
