March 3, 1982 Park. Board Meeting
Page 5
Fornell said that one important element is the. City has .approved
reimbursement for acquisition of land under the current plan.
Estimate 3/4 million dollars to be returned to the City. This
would be reimbursed to the City-from Metro Council. Use interest
for City incurred operating costs for Park & Rec., maintenance
and other costs. The money could be used for total reimbursement
for CIP or invested in a trust fund at 13% interest - $100,000/yr.
Costs for Park & Rec. Dept. is a little more than 20% of the
budget. .The issue is not just physical but also what the City
can afford.
Gunderman stated that there are drafts of master plan available
for people to look at. After a 5 minute-brew residents can
voice their opinions and concerns.
Pat Commers, 1732 14th Ave. N.W.
Commers had a formal statement from the Long Lake Improvement
Association. The Association's main concerns were noted (see
attachment A).
Commers quoted Anderson stating Long Lake homeowners did not put
up much of a fight. She also stated there are somethings on
the master plan that were never discussed. At one long night
meeting Simons commented to the Long Lake Study Committee that
this park will be a Ramsey County Park.
Mot-ion by .Olson, seconded by Dahl, to accept letter from the
Long Lake Improvement Association. Motion passed.
Virginia Sande, 1718 9th St. N.W., League of Women Voters
Favors plan. League favors comprehensive park program as
regional park .rather than a city park. She listed the
League's criteria for the park a (see attachement B)
The League criteria was satisfied.
Motion by Olson, seconded by Hogan, to accept the copy from
the League of Women Voters.. Motion passed.
Roger Wilson, 1698 14th Ave. N.W., Long Lake resident
Wilson read a letter stating we've come ~-long way but-are not
there yet. The Park Board has put in many hours and he appreciates
it. The letter has to do with safety. Long Lake is very narrow,
that's why the capacity for power boats is small. The north end
is very narrow. The channel is very small and very shallow and
allows only 2 of the area for powerboats. Realizing all of the
homes on the lake and the. fact-that the access is closed during
the summer, there is a danger concern with-the possibility of
increased boats on the lake. Someone could be ma3.m~d or killed.
More and more homes have an access. Do you still want to let
5 more boats on the lake? Let it be on each ,of your conscience
if it results in a death or .serious injury..
Motion by Olson, seconded by Grimshaw, to accept letter from
Roger Wilson. Motion passed. (See attachment C)
