March 3, 1982 Park Board Meeting Page 7
Dave Oberstrom, White Bear Lake
Not a New Brighton resident but as a Ramsey County tax payer,
expresses opposition to the plan. If Ramsey County money is
needed, don't think you`ll have their support. To propose a
new park and increase expenditures is ridiculous.
Jack Chock, 591 Driftwood Road
Have used Long Lake. Want all citizen's concerns heard. All
people in New Brighton have a right to an access to the lake.
Question whether we can afford the park - maybe we should put
it aside for awhile,
Marge Bartho, 1219 Mississippi
Highest level in plan is water facilities, for 2.5 million dollars,
City will not be getting its mgney~s worth.
Gary Floss, 1444 18th St. N.W.
Have lived on the lake and adjacent to the lake and have lived
on other lakes. Think homeowners on Long Lake have recognized
the large access that's been disguised since 1974.. Why is a
.park of this. magnitude such an ego trip. Access can be much
smaller. Long Lake is a beautiful natural asset, it should be
a natural park., The plan-does not take that into consideration.
The. amount of black top .planned is unbelievable. Fiscal re-
sponsibility for a park of this nature is great.
Susam Mansfield, 3139 Innsbruck Dr., Long Lake Study Committee
She is a potential user. Concerned with how we are loping
sight of the issue on emotionalism. One spoke to safety,
dredged for bodies, so full of bad design features. Are we
questioning the professional credentials of the planners?
Jerry Bensing, 1861 18th Ave.
Speaking in a different light from the others, ~he.~~~oton~lsm
i~ true. Remembers an incident on an inner tube where a child
was lost and also another `involving two little boys. Would like
to see New Brighton attempt to write down costs. City Manager's
figures may be reduced. more. than 50o for a city park because
trails should not be included. Verylarge picnic area has many
sewer lines and cost is phenomenal. 1/4 or l/5 of the proposed
cost if we do it ourselves. We might consider that. Start with
development at the south end, Have access for canoes, sailboats.
Ramsey County could take over at a later date.
