March 3, 1982 Park Board Meeting
,~F,
~,~'r~_
Steve Kirk, 2311 2 (?) NW
Page 8
Support regional park on Long Lake. Urge board to consider the
questions here tonight. Need a spirit of cooperation. Consider
all aspects. Hear vandalism and enforcement concerns. Felt
concerns had-been answered. Ther are alot of registered watercraft
in Minnesota. Long Lake belongs to me and. my family and all
others. Concerned with Long Lake, as well as other lakes. Lake
can only bean asset to the City. Open space areas-and undeveloped
property on the lakes area rare commodity.
Dr. John Ragen, 1203 Mississippi
.Appreciate all the work.. Have concern with .asphalt, health and
safety factors. Taking all boats off would be the best for safety.
Prefer to error in a way that is reversible. If you must make a
decision.- error on side of leaving green space.
Elaine Schussler, 1657 14th.~ve~.; N_.W.
Have .lived on Long Lake's placid shores since 1946 and have .worked
to maintain tax base. Don't .endorse everything Pat Commers has
said. Nominates herself as a committee of one.. Meeting of the
minds ought to be endeavored. Want to talk about New Brighton
as a really sharp .place. with built-in, strongly. vested downtown
development.: I see new downtown active and with a connection
to Long Lake. 800 to 1,000 feet from 694 would be ideal for
multiple use space, open to quality development. in keeping with
downtown. This would be in connection. with Long Lake. Let's
.look at a place to capitalize on new New Brighton and Long Lake.
Could have a fancy sea food restaurant, Chanhassen-like theater
and auditorium making use of the lake. I-see it as enhancing
the quality of life.. Acreage could be divided in three sections;
south as recreational, .middle .section quiet and passive, and the
north more passive. Long Lake beach could be a club. Recreation
should be community based. Might city planners and Park Board
incorporate Long Lake as part of downtown. Let's be new New
Brighton. .Let Long Lake and downtown be as one. Present this
to all officials related to-the park. Plans are just plans, doors
are never closed.
Paul Sch~eppe,1227 12th Ave. N.W.
It's not as simple as people want to think it is. Belonged to
the Long .Lake Improvement Association and then didn`t,. but now
back on. Concerned with boats. It is dangerous. Have to be
more controls. The boat section has to be looked at. Like
to see design of lake after buoys are up and all the boats are
on the .lake. Sure you are not so naive that you don`t. see :the
problem. If land is that delicate, think it is a disgrace with
all the black top. Hope you'll take. it into consideration.
