November 1, 1983
ADLILT ACTIVITIES
Basketball
This league takes in teams whose members live or work in New
Brighton, Mounds View and St. Anthony. Since there is a
Limit on facilities available, there is a limit on the number
of participants so I do not see too much ...change in the numbers.
We have also combined efforts with Mounds View - they offer
the 3 man basketball and we run the 5 man basketball.
Softball
To help try-and serve some more softball enthusiasts, we .added
a Friday night double header league. That, combined wi h an in-
crease in the number of teams interested in the women's league,
produced an increase .this year for participants in softball.
There would possibly be more, if we had the. facilities.
Fall Softball
There was an amazing increase in interest for a continuation
of softball after the regular season. We offered only one
night originally and ended up with a total of three nights,
.each with six different teams.
Volleyball
This has been a pretty steady number because the number of
teams in each league offered has pretty much remained con-
sistent over the years. -This year we offered volleyball
clinics so that increased the number of participants over
last year. In addition, for the last two years, summer
volleyball has been offered.
Exercise Programs
In 1981 there was a dramatic increase because we offered more.
choices in the dance/exercise classes. Aerobic Dancing and Jazz
Exercise type classes were real popular nation wide. Last year.
the newness of exercise programs diminished as evident with a
decrease in participants. In 1983 there is again an increase
because we added a class which the instructor had a following
of regular. students. Otherwise, exercise classes in the. pool
and other classes have remained fairly stable. We have also
noted that within a year the winter and spring exercise classes
are .better attended than the summer and fall offerings.
Days Away Trips
Trips are done 3-4 times a year and planned jointly with St.
Anthony Community Services. We try to keep cost of each trip
around $20. At this time the number of trips seems to accomo~
date the resident's needs. In 1982 we had to cancel one trip
and in 1983 we added an extra trip (5 trips) which caused the
increase in numbers of participants in 1983.
