The teachers were strongly opposed <br /> to the program stating that fees charged by the district <br /> are leq:itimate and that teachers are best qualified to <br /> ins>tY-uri. these clrisses. The group advised the Conununity <br /> 1.?c1UC~ll-.l.on Di rector tlla~ their union would oppose formation <br />• of this program. As a result, the Community )Jducation <br /> Department has .abandoned the effort, at least for 1983. <br /> Our de}?artment is offering ail alternative to the district's <br /> summer program. We will only offer recreational classes <br /> • stated with c}ualified instructors and coordinated in suctl <br />~; a way that residents could send their children to the edu- <br /> cational classes offered ~by the district and to our recrea- , <br /> ti.onal classes . <br />
