LeAnn Linder
Lifestyle Health Director
New Brighton and Mounds View Park and Recreatiron
633-8906 784-3055
LIFESTYLE HEALTH PROGRAM
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is as important as getting help whets
you are sick. Your lifestyle is you, what you think, feel, do, eat,
drink and breathe.
Today, almost 70 percent of all deaths in Minnesota are caused by
heart disease, stroke and cancer, reports the Minnesota Health
Department, 1983. The "good news" is we can now identify personal
risk factors and reduce or prevent most diseases through improved
health and fitness habits. Informed persons help themselves stay well
by the kinds of decisions they make daily. Lifestyle programs are
education and activity sessions that promote personal responsibility
one takes for their health, and encourage behavorial changes that
reduce the risk of illness or injury and studies indicate strong
benefits of lifestyle health programs. Individuals feel better
physically, and mentally. They believe their capacity to work is
enhances and they are more able to relax, become ill much less, report
improved family relationships and esteem. And most of all, people
believe the education and activities to be fun.
An- objective of the program is educational and awareness programs that
contribute to and support fitness activities. We encourage a balanced
lifestyle, offering a wide variety of activity with sustained
rositive changes as a goal. Four phases generally support the
wellness concept.
1. Personal health assessment.
2. Educational classes.
3. Fitness and acivities.
4. Goal setting, motiviation, maintenance.
The Mounds View and New Brighton Lifestyle Health and Fitness program
encompasses these five areas:
... Fitness and Activities
... Nutrition and Weight Control
... Stress Management
... Personal Skills/Healthy Relationships
... Amoking/Alcohol and Drugs
A complete offering of courses will be available in December.
Programs begin January, 1984 and will offer such classes as: Fitness
for Families, Aerobic Dance, Aqua Exercise for Seniors, Swim and Stay
Fit, Stop Smoking, Stress Management, Time Management, Healthy Eating
Habits, Successful Weight Control.
