July 6, 1983 Park Board Minutes Page 3 <br />E. Stockyard Days Re-Cap <br />Anderson. said it was a success. Support from organizations and <br />businesses was superb. Cost for Parks and Rec. was about <br />$1500. Looking for ways to do a better job and cheaper, through <br />more advanced planning. The city's contribution was well worth <br />it. Any comments from the Park Board are appreciated. Plan to <br />leave the BMX track in if no complaints. Kids really enjoy it. <br />Dahl asked if the committee was pleased with the turn out.. <br />Anderson said the train. rides were down but that was expected. <br />Most concessionnaires were pleased. Parade was good, BMX good, <br />lOK race good. <br />Dahl said she heard some concessionnaires disappointed in numbers. <br />Olson said fireworks display was very good. <br />Johnson said the Taste of 5t. Paul was a phenominal success. <br />He was wondering if there was any thought to doing something <br />like that for Stockyard Days. <br />Anderson said the train rides may not take place every year. <br />Looking for big attraction to take its place, want to emphasize <br />something unique to New Brighton. <br />VI. Old Business <br />A. 1984-88 CIP <br />Anderson said the .CIP was brought back to the Park Board as <br />requested. <br />Olson suggested doing further publicity for community involvement <br />program. <br />Anderson saidit'needs a more personal appeal. New Brighton <br />doesn`t have any community neighborhood groups. <br />Anderson said, there has not been any requests for using money in <br />1983. <br />Olson stated she has 3 girl scouts working toward a gold-award <br />that could apply. <br />Gunderman asked what 1984 Vets sitework wasR <br />Anderson said the Park Board wanted to improve Vets: but were <br />waiting ford~`c3.sa:~oan.s on downtown development. <br />Blomquist told the Park Board that the Council will judge the <br />community invohvement program in 1984 by how it went in 1983. <br />Perhaps the lights should be moved to 1983. <br />Gunderman asked about the athletic lights, <br />
