July 6, 1983 Park Board Minutes Page 3 E. Stockyard Days Re-Cap Anderson. said it was a success. Support from organizations and businesses was superb. Cost for Parks and Rec. was about $1500. Looking for ways to do a better job and cheaper, through more advanced planning. The city's contribution was well worth it. Any comments from the Park Board are appreciated. Plan to leave the BMX track in if no complaints. Kids really enjoy it. Dahl asked if the committee was pleased with the turn out.. Anderson said the train. rides were down but that was expected. Most concessionnaires were pleased. Parade was good, BMX good, lOK race good. Dahl said she heard some concessionnaires disappointed in numbers. Olson said fireworks display was very good. Johnson said the Taste of 5t. Paul was a phenominal success. He was wondering if there was any thought to doing something like that for Stockyard Days. Anderson said the train rides may not take place every year. Looking for big attraction to take its place, want to emphasize something unique to New Brighton. VI. Old Business A. 1984-88 CIP Anderson said the .CIP was brought back to the Park Board as requested. Olson suggested doing further publicity for community involvement program. Anderson saidit'needs a more personal appeal. New Brighton doesn`t have any community neighborhood groups. Anderson said, there has not been any requests for using money in 1983. Olson stated she has 3 girl scouts working toward a gold-award that could apply. Gunderman asked what 1984 Vets sitework wasR Anderson said the Park Board wanted to improve Vets: but were waiting ford~`c3.sa:~oan.s on downtown development. Blomquist told the Park Board that the Council will judge the community invohvement program in 1984 by how it went in 1983. Perhaps the lights should be moved to 1983.
