July 6, 1983 Park Board Minutes <br />Page 2 <br />Proper said a big berm can be in front and with plantings it <br />will enhance the appearance of the building. He stated he <br />would be happy to come back to the Park Board with a plan <br />showing the driveway and have information on colored concrete. <br />Motion by Solberg, seconded by Olson, to have-the well building <br />at this approximate location at Creekview. <br />Motion carried. <br />Johnson asked that the building be buried as much as possible <br />and that earth tone colors be explored for the building. <br />C. Use of Basic Industries Donation <br />Anderson asked for ideas for use of donation. <br />Gunderman felt the purchase of a pitching machine would be a <br />good buy. The kids love that program and now we are sharing <br />with Mounds View and having to transport the machine back and <br />forth between the two cities, making it inconvenient. <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Johnson, to use the Basic <br />Industries donation for a.pitching machine. <br />Motion carried. <br />Olson stated it would be a good .idea to let the public know <br />what kind of_donations we have received to date! <br />D. Playground Equipment ~ South Hansen <br />Anderson stated. the "Green Bugger" is not a safe piece of equipment <br />by today's standards. The structure is too high. and is not enclosed. <br />Have received a few phone calls asking that it be removed. There <br />supposedly-have been two serious accidents in the past year; a <br />broken leg and a broken arm. In his opinion it should be removed. <br />Johnson asked how this piece of equipment is different from anything <br />else we have in the parks. <br />Anderson responded that it was not manufactured by a playground <br />company, therefore did not meet any safety standards, it has also <br />been extensively vandalized.- The timbers are starting to rot and <br />there is graffitti all over it, The .slides and a few timbers <br />may be salvagable. <br />Motion by Gunderman, seconded by Olson, to remove. the "Green <br />Bugger" from south Hansen. <br />Johnson said to put something in-that area. <br />Dahl-said there are enough picnic. tables close-that we wouldn't <br />need anything there. Like it as an open grassy .area;;:. <br />Hogan said he didn't think the structure looked safe. He asked <br />his 8 year old what he thought and he said it could be replaced. <br />with something not so high or a miniature golf course. <br />Motion carried, <br />
