s
February 1, 1984 Fark Board Minutes Page 2
V. New Busines s
A. Centex Development
Anderson said the land south of Driftwood Park is being con-
sidered by Centex for an extensive development..
Brenda Kruger, City Planner, went through the steps. Centex
will have to do before .development.
*Get a petition of 50~ of the residents for
rezoning
*Get preliminary and final approval from
the City Council
*Get Plat approval
*Solve the problem of getting water to the
location.
Kruger said the approvals will take 3 - 4 months.
Dick Putnam of Tandem Consulting Service showed slides of
projects previously done by Centex. He had a meeting with
residents the previous day and received their concerns and
ideas. The property .extends down to County Road E and then
down to Silver Lake Road.
•
Centex took the City Council on a tour of their housing •
projects in Edina, Bloomington and Eden Prairie. The price
range for New Brighton would be mid 70's. Traffic is a problem.
Three entrances to the development are planned; County Road E,
3rd St. and a new road along the west end of the park a Centex
would donate some land for the park property that would be lost
because of the road. The idea of a trail system around the
development is a possibility. May be able to get down to the
beach on Silver .Lake.
Gunderman asked-how many acres would be traded, for the property
lost to the road.
Putnam said an acre or acre and a half on the south and an acre
on the north. It was suggested by Maurie Anderson to have a
trail around the entire pond. The concern at the meeting last
night with the neighborhood residents was that not slot of fill
be taken out of the area.
Johnson said an acre and a half donation didn't see~.t adequate.
Gunderman asked what group of people these homes would be
attracting.
Putnam responded basically single family; young and with children.
Carlson asked about the size of Driftwood Park.
r ~
U
Anderson said it is 9 acres.
