ADULT ACTIVITIES
Lifestyle Educational Classes
This category relates to classes added because of our overall new
program of Healthy People Lifestyle Program. These classes include
the stop smoking, stress management, sport injuries, weight control
and others which are more educational versus the physical classes
which are also part of the overall program. These figures are also
just the registrations through the New Brighton Department even though
the programs. were offered in combination with Mounds View. This program
is going through some changes and staff of both cities is presently
reviewing what directions we should continue.
Basketball
This league takes in teams whose members live or work in New Brighton,
Aiounds View and St. Anthony. Since there is a limit on facilities
available, there is a limit on the number of participants. We did
drop one team for the 1983-84 season. Our maximum is 12 teams. We
have also combined efforts with Mounds View - they offer the 3 man
basketball and we run the 5 man basketball. We do know that for the
1984-85 season we will be at the maximum.
Softball
Softball demand is constantly increasing from year to year.. We did
• increase our Thursday night use of fields to the maximum because
there was the demand. But due to the limitation on our facilities
it will be a difficulty to meet the demands. This past summer was also..
one of the worst for rain outs, although that did not alter our
participation numbers, it did alter the quality of their satisfaction.
Fall Softball
In _1983 there was an overwhelming increase of interest for fall softball.
This year we lost some men's teams but a women's league was offered
which kept the numbers for the 2 years the same.
Volleyball
This has been a pretty steady number because the number of teams in
each league offered has pretty much. remained consistent over the
years. The volleyball clinics have helped increase the number of
participants over last year. In addition, the Olympics has had the
effect of creating more demand for power-refereed volleyball, because
of this we have more women's teams in our league and will be offering
a second night of co-rec power volleyball since we've. reached our
maximum for the one night.
•
