YOUTH
. Gymnastics-=
This program has been offered for many years and as we've had changes.
with instructors we've had changes in numbers participating. In 1983
after some decline we started building the programs back up by offering
two different types of options for individuals to sign up for. This
proved successful. Tn the first part of 1984 we continued strengthening
the program. Summer is traditionally a smaller program because parti-
cipants have some other options besides gymnastics.. This fall we
hired a new head instructor and have an all new format by offering
2 sessions this fall. .Therefore in part, the numbers are-high due
to the fact that most who participated in the first session signed
up for the .second session. Also Xiomara Ugarte has really helped the
program because participants and parents really like her and her goals
and objectives. Xiomara has brought in some very good staff that will
help continue the growth in this program.
Skating Lessons
This program ties heavily with what numbers of youth, ages 6-7, that
are residing in our community during a given year and the severity of
the weather before the class starts. Our figure also for 1984 includes
only the lessons .offered on Saturdays. New in .1984 was an aftersohool
offering called skate and snack which was offered at the 3 sites nearest.
the 3 elementary schools. Only .Freedom and Hansen went but both were
• well received and the numbers are included in the after s:r~hool program
category.
Speed Skating
Several years ago there was a strong local group of parents interested
in speed skating. Since their kids have grown up, the decrease was
dramatic.. The program is linked to the Northern Lights Program so
we have continued to offer it even though there are only a few interested
because those that are interested are enthusiastic and appreciate our
program versus having to travel to another community.
T-Ball
Tied into youth population, this program has remained pretty
consistent in numbers each year. 1983 added a level with a pitching
machine so this helped increase the numbers slightly. In 1984 we
leveled back down. Also in 1984 we changed our kindergarten program
to a day .time activity and instructional program instead of the evening
and competitive structure and this was well recived by participants.
•
