t
,August 1, 1984 Park Board Minutes.
Page 3
Carlson agrees with Johnson: that maybe maintenance should be
emphasized.
Johnson said the word."acquire" is everywhere in the document
but maintenance seems not important.
Anderson said that the role Met .Council. is moving into is one
of finding funds .for operation and maintenance. It is a gentle
drift rather than a trend. Anderson feels the State might. be
receptive to that. Maintenance-was never a major focus for
Met Council.
Johnson understood and there was no further discussion on the
matter.
Purpose and Goals #5
Anderson felt public awareness was lacking.
Van Hatten said he was totally against government agencies
advertising.
Anderson said he is considering advertising to area communities
when Long Lake beach is scheduled to opens.
Van Hatten said he doesn't like it-when the Welfare Agency
advertises.
Van Hatten asked how advertising would go over with New Brighton
residents.
Anderson said there-are a few who may not agree with it,
Carlson asked what would happen when we had more people come
than we could handle.
Anderson said he didn't think that would be a problem,
RECOMMENDED RESPONSE>
Public. awareness needs to be dramatically increased,
Question #2
Anderson said "balance" is a statement. worth supporting, It's
easy to not see something if it's not in the regional plan.
Carlson said he was confused about exac~kly what."balance" meant.
Anderson said Met Council probably just-looked at the Regional
systems, we think it should be other agencies too,
Anderson said that he believes our response helps define the
question.
Van Hatten suggested adding""also" before"provded'T in the
response. The Park Board concurred.
