August 1, 1984 Park, Board Minutes Page 4
RECOMMENDED RESPONSE:
The regional. system should be "balanced":with facilities
also provided by other agencies,
Question #4
Van Hatten asked if the barriers. are physical?
Anderson said not necessarily. Barriers could be a fee or
lack of transportation to the park;.
Carlson said a barrier could be that alot of people don't
-know about it.
Anderson said that .most of the parks attract white adults in
the 25-50 year age bracket. This is not surprising but that~s
what the issue is getting at.
Van Hatten suggested listing the barriers.
Dahl.. said we don't know what they-are,
Van Hatten said he would .never have thought of a fee as a barrier.
Dahl said we could put "identification'" in the response.
RECOMMENDED RESPONSE:
Identification and barrier removal should be given a high priority
in the revised policy plan,
Question #5
Anderson said .Long Lake .will barely be developed in the year 2000.
Dahl said to meet needs is a-goal. Needs always .change so you
have to be flexible...
Anderson-said that should be in the response.
The statement "In order to .:respond to changing needs" should be
added to the beginning of the response.
RECOMMENDED RESPONSE
In order to respond to changing needs it is unrealistic to ever
consider development of the system complete.
Question #6
Anderson said this is somewhat of a change from the original part
of the system but they should be charged with doing it.
Dahl said that she discovered that the word.."system" means all
area park and recreation facilities.
