Question # 9 Anderson said that for. the lst time, SCORP is asking people what .should go into-the plan. Previously SCORP has dealt with the State as though the Metropolitan system did not. ..exist. Anderson said he hopes they keep moving in the right direction. RECOMMENDED RESPONSE: Planning efforts in all three areas should be coordinated as much as possible. Question #8 Johnson said there was no comment. on question #8 in Maure's memo but he was concerned about the tourism issue. He thinks tourism should be where you spend dollars in-the State and should not encourage use'of public facilities. Dahl said she does not think they are saying that the importance of tourism is parks.. Tt`s just one of the ways to get people to the parks.. Anderson said Ontario advertises parks and it works. By bringing in people, overall they are spending money for other things in that city,` i.e. gas, food, etc. Johnson still feels question #8 should have a no. Anderson said that the way it is worded, he does not disagree with it. Carlson commented that when he travels, he cannot spend_a great deal of time in one place so he keys in on the advertising and chooses where he"11 go and what he"11 see from that.. Van Hatten said he agreed with Johnson. Johnson said that tourism should-.not be Met Council's goal, Anderson said that Met Council is the coordinating agency for Metropolitan issues,. they deal with all issues, not only parks. Economics is a part of their function.. Van Hatten said he would like to see tourism and economics two separate issues, No to one, yes to .the other. Johnson. said he would agree with that. Johnson said his answer is no to the question: Should the Council"s goals add this directive to the regional system: goals? He did not have a strong feeling one way or the other regarding the economic development.
