August 1, 1984 Park Board Minutes Page 6 <br />Anderson said that they may be using this as a political ploy. <br />When they go back to the legislature, they can say this is in <br />line with. their goal.: <br />Johnson said he still disagrees. <br />Van Hatten said he ..says yes to the economic development but <br />no on tourism.. <br />Carlson said he ,would prefer to see Johnson and Van Hatten's <br />concerns in a statement .giving reasons rather than a plain no, <br />_RECOT~MENDED RESPONSE: <br />It is appropriate to use parks to encourage economic development <br />and share in the high quality of life but to use parks to promote <br />tourism is .:inappropriate... <br />Dahl said she disagrees. <br />ISSUE 2 <br />Anderson said this is a restatement of what we said in the goals. <br />RECOMMENDED RESPONSE:. <br />Development has proceeded too slowly and should be given priority <br />over acquisition. <br />ISSUE 4 <br />Question 2 <br />Anderson said there are some parks that are extremely overused, <br />It is conceivable that Lake Calhoun could be a regional park. <br />RECOMMENDED RESPONSE: <br />Support as desirable. <br />ISSUE 5 <br />Policy 22 <br />Anderson said they are meeting the minimum maintenance and <br />development. <br />Dahl said it would be difficult to set a minimum. standard. <br />RECOMMENDED RESPONSE: <br />Strongly Support. <br />
