January 4, 1.984 Park Board Minutes <br />Page 3 <br />Kelly said there is a possibility of a second group being <br />formed but the ..seniors fear separation and staff and space is <br />a problem so forming. activity. groups would be a good alterna- <br />tive. <br />Kelly-said to be considered an active member they ..must attend <br />4 of 12 meetings. A party is held in December that is paid <br />for through the money made at the seniors bazaar held-in <br />April. That is why they must attend 4 meetings. <br />Kelly said she is looking for men to dance with the senior <br />ladies. She will possibly be seeking them through Rotary <br />or similar clubs. <br />Kelly s~.i.d there have.. been .requests from seniors for a hikers <br />group, golf lessons, splash parties, tennis leagues., <br />The response to the survey put out this fall was very.. poor. <br />Gunderman suggested dramatics as an activity. <br />Olson said the washboard band or instrument group would be <br />a good idea. Dahl and Johnson agreed. <br />Johnson asked if she was interested in reaching more people and <br />said he-may be able to provide-some mailing lists. <br />Kelly said yes. <br />.Dahl thinks. it's good to intereact seniors with kids. <br />Kelly said the seniors will be with the Pike .Lake kids. The <br />kids will be putting on a program and the seniors will then <br />do something in return.. <br />Dahl said most kids in her neighborhood .don`t have an extended <br />family and would like to. <br />Gunderman said. seniors can be tutors or volunteers but trans- <br />portation is always a problem, <br />Gunderman said .perhaps the community services vehicle could <br />be used for some of the senior's transpotat.on problems. <br />Anderson said clot of communities have a donated van. <br />Dahl-.said Christ the King has a bus. <br />Van Hatten suggested contacting Control Data regarding their <br />vans they use for car pooling.. <br />Kelly said that the problem arises that the senior activities <br />are .generally during. the day. <br />Dahl suggested that the churches be contacted for any volunteer <br />drivers. <br />
