NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />JULY 29, 1985 <br />I. The meeting was called to order by Chariman Gunderman at 7:30pm <br />II. Members Present: Blomquist, Carlson, Eichers, Gunderman, Johnson, <br />Seward, Council Rep. Benke <br />Absent: Olson, Rose, Van Hatten <br />III. Minutes <br />A. Minutes of July 10, 1985 were approved as submitted. <br />IV. Correspondence <br />A. Council Report <br />Benke stated the Council gave preliminary development approval <br />to two hotels. The Council referr ed the plans for landscaping <br />of City Hall to the Park Board. <br />V. New Business <br />A. City Hall Renovation <br />Dick Gilyard and Damon Farber were present to explain the <br />preliminary plans for City Hall and if the budget is approved <br />for next year, Vets will be redeveloped. <br />Gilyard showed the Park Board the interior plan for City Hall.. <br />Gunderman stated he would like to see some water fountain or <br />greenery in the "tunnel". <br />Anderson commented that they have done a remarkable job of <br />combining the council and staff concerns; everyone is pretty <br />well satisfied. <br />Farber showed the landscape plan for City Ha11. An item of <br />consideration is a buffer between the school and park. Have <br />talked of closing 3rd Ave. to move the park over some and <br />enlarge the softball field. A seniors highrise will necessitate <br />a passive area, There will be a pathway system. The open area <br />will eventually have same kind of water area for heavy rain run- <br />off and also to make the area aesthetically pleasing. Items, <br />in the plan now include: softball, shelter, benches, trash, <br />bike racks, totlot, walkway, lighting, passive area, active <br />area, ornamental plantings. The parking lot has only on <br />entrance and exit because of the grade. Farber said he needs <br />the Park Board's general observations as the plans continue.. <br />He is also working with.the highrise people and others involved <br />in the immediate area. The Parks Department will have a say <br />in what kind of trees will be planted. Trying to create an <br />environment that fits with City Ha11. The parking lot extends <br />40 ft. further now. There will be a secondary entrance on the <br />north side. The present entrance will remain as the main en- <br />
