July 10, 1985 Park Board Minutes
C. Department Report
Page 2
Anderson said the Fitness Court is going in and should be completed
by Friday. Lighting poles are in. Wires will go in the ground next
week. Tennis courts are redone. The 4th court has been turned into
a basketball court. Backboards for tennis will also be put in. Two
of the tennis courts at Hansen are lit. We also have lights for
volleyball and basketball.
Anderson stated that Cadwalader must build new tennis courts at
Silver yak before he can build townhouses but in the mean time
he is piling debris around the old courts. The old courts are
usable but not aesthetically pleasing.
The .golf course is doing well. Ahead of last year and may end up
ahead of 1983 which was the best year. Interviewing on Friday for
Golf Course Manager position.
Recreation programming is going well. Have always had mixed feelings
about contracting out programs. Have had doubts because we lose
control. We took a bunch of kids to Bunker Hills recently and the
stable was not prepared for the group even though we had made
arrangements well in advance and we had a couple of kids injured;
one with a broken foot. We are in the process of refunding the
money for that trip.
Budget work begins next week.
Gunderman asked about the pipeline. Anderson said the parking lot
was redesigned and moved. When the lease expires, they'll have to
move the parking lot. It's going to cost us mare money because we'll
have to have part of the parking lot redone and it will cast the
pipeline company more too but they would not do it any other way.
Benke also commented that a new owner of the railroad will probably
take place in the near future to complicate matters mare.
Gunderman asked if Jim Skiba had received his commendation.
Anderson responded yes but he was not present to receive it so
it was mailed to him.
D. Pike Lake School Letter
Dan Oas, of the Pike Lake Student Council, said they would like
to have new playground equipment at Pike Lake/Freedom Park. The
students have raised $4,000 and were given $3,000. Paul Donley of
School District #621 was approached and said they would donate
$2,000 in labor. Dan said he understands the city has matching
funds which would make $18,000. They also want to go to insurance
companies to get the remaining money ($30,000 total).
