July 10, 1985 Park Board Minutes
Page 5
Benke asked if Vets would be a, good park to light the ball field.
Anderson said it is not big enough. The only field he would
support lighting would be Freedom, or Driftwood if some more
land was obtained in that area. Freedom is on stable ground
and there are less residential areas. Hansen would be good
but the ground is too unstable. If we do light a field we
would need an irrigation system because of the heavy use the
field would get (about 5 nights a week), Parking would be needed
too. Parking lot at Freedom was never curbed. The lighting
item could be in the Comprehensive Plan with the Pike Lake
neighborhood.
Anderson said there have been some problems on Long Lake with
power boats buzzing canoes and rafts.
Benke commented that perhaps a letter should be sent to .the
LLIA to take care of the problem. Have the Mayor send the
letter.
MOTION BY BLOMQUIST, SECONDED BY STEWARD, THAT THE PARK BOARD
REQUESTED THAT THE CITY CORRESPOND WITH THE LONG LAKE IMPROVE-
MENT ASSOCIATION REGARDING UNSAFE BOATING PRACTICES ON LONG
LAKE. MOTION CARRIED.
Rose commented that he like it when they could hit over the
tree on #7 at the Golf Course.
Eichers asked if there were plans for more shelters at any
parks.
Anderson said only three parks do not have pavilions. Not
sure we need one at Vermont. Vets does not have one and
Totem is so small - perhaps it could be put in the SW area.
Gunderman commented that when the shelter is remodeled maybe
a deck could be added.
Anderson said that is not a bad idea.
Benke said that it could be discussed at the neighborhood
meeting.
Benke told the Park Board that the goals and plans will not
be plugged into the budget process by each department and
will eventually go to the Council.
Anderson said that far staff it is very nice because generally
the budget is done and then the goals. Now we are doing the
goals first - it is much nicer.
C. 1986 Budget Concerns
Anderson said most everything was included in the above.
