Considering the Council Cham- <br />~ers separately as places of assembly, City Hal] would require <br />85 parking spaces. She had not discussed the street vacation <br />with the City Engineer but felt the street vacation may be possible <br />because it is already blocked off for St. Johns, during school hours. <br />Larry Krinke asked why this site was choosen for City Hall when <br />there is no further room for expansion. <br />Representative Blomquist stated that cost was the major factor <br />' combined with the realization the Gity has already achieved much <br />~f its full growth potential. <br />Mr. Krinke asked if Ramsey County was participating in the cost of <br />the project. <br />Representative Blomquist responded, yes, Ramsey County had signed a <br />long term lease with the City for court space. <br />Resident asked if more parking could be provided by providing com- <br />pact car parking. <br />Mr. Pierce stated that the City used a 9 foot x 2.0 foot parking <br />space that was slight]y large. <br />~otion by Williams, seconded by Sande to close the public hearing. <br />5 Ayes - 0 Noyes, Motion carried. <br />Commissioner Becker asked if the bids would be solicited before a <br />final decision to construct the amphitheater at this time. <br />Mr. Pierce stated that was correct. <br />Representative Blomquist stated that consideration of the impact of <br />the parking required for City Wall should be given in view of other <br />applicant's requesting building approvals downtown. <br />Chairman Williams stated that it is important not to make it look <br />like 70 parking stalls was just out of the air. The paragraph on <br />parking in the staff report justifies the 70 parking stalls. Felt <br />it would be ashame to eliminate the green space along the rear of <br />the building far the benefit parking. Parking could be provided to <br />the east. <br />Representative Blomquist asked what the cost of parking spaces were <br />on good soil. <br />• <br />
