~W~.~~
1732 14th A venue N.W.
New Brighton, MN 55112
June 11, 1984
Mr. Anthony J. Crea
Director of Parks and Recreation
1850 White Bear Avenue
St. Paul. MN 55109
RE: Ammended Master Plan for Long Lake Regional Park
Dear Mr. Crea.
We respectfully request you consider ammendments or modifications to the
_~ present, Master Plan with regard to the following scheduled Master, Plan items:
Large Picnic Area
The Large Picnic Area is extremely over-designed both in location and
accomodatian of users. The present plan is designed to accomodate 100
cars and 2 buses, and accordingly will accomodate 200-500 average users
per day.
This design potentially creates an undue concentration of people in the northwest
quarter of the Park. In turn. this concentration will create a noise
pollution problem both for the Park users and the area residents. We
request that the location of the Large Group Picnic Area be moved 75-100
yards back from the crest of the hill. In addition, we request the user sire
should be reduced to accomodate 150-200 people. with a corresponding
reduction in vehicle parking space. Furthermore, additional picnic areas
should be designed in other park areas in order to serve those users who
prefer to be in a more natural setting.
Boat Launch
We request the boat launch be relocated from the eastern share to
