Veterans Park Renovation ..Johnson asked if there were any other concerns not brought up at the previous meeting with the residents... Nelson said the tot lot area did not get talked about. It gets alot of use from St. Jahn's and the use would be from lst - 8th-grade. The equipment should be geared. toward that age group. .Olson said she was concerned about the age group using the equipment too. Tot lot sounds. like something for pre-schoolers. .Maybe there could be two separate areas; one-for the younger group and one for the older kids. Midness said that "tot lot" is just a term they use. It does not designate a specific age group. Van Hatten also stated it was important that the equipment installed should be able to withstand the older kids. Olson wanted to make sure the ball games would not interfere with the kids playing in the tot lot area. Midness said the tot lot is 260' away - it shouldn't be a problem. There are-trees that will buffer the area too. Carlson also felt the play area should be divided into two areas; one for 4-6 graders and one for 1-3 graders. The two groups play differently. Van. Hatten said that was a good idea. Van Hatten felt there might be a need for a bigger bleacher area. Johnson said it was interesting to note from the Veterans Park neighborhood that there is so much interest in watching the ball games.- Rose asked if the senior high rise is just a proposal at ,.this time. Yes, was the response. Carlson thought there could be a ramp built along one side of the bleachers that would enable wheelchairs and handicapped people to watch games.. Johnson said the first row could be left open for them. Johnson said in Plan #4 he would .like to see the walkway continued to the sidewalk along the back of the ball diamond - just for another access.
