April 2, 1986 Park Board Mintues
Page 5
Van Hatten thought that perhaps 9th Street could be vacated
if 3rd Ave. was closed.
Anderson said he would like to come up with enough information-
for Bill Midness from each plan to put another plan together
to present to the residents. Would then like to a have a final
plan ready for the-May Council meeting and begin construction
in August.
Midness said he would like the residents and the Council to
see all the plans, as the Park Board has, to see how the
Park Board made its:-: decisions.
Van Hatten said he likes the entrance in #1
Johnson suggested bringing the path away from the pond and
make it longer for joggers.
Van Hatten said the City Hall access is important, also the
parking lot entrance for maintenance vehicles.
Blomquist said she liked the pond on #2, the plaza on #3
and the entrance on #1.
Williams sand the shelter building close to the pond in #3
would be nice for skaters.
Johnson said he liked the formal access.
Anderson said he likes the entrance in #1. Perhaps the Vets
World War l Memorial could be placed in the triangle area of
the entrance and could have a flag raising in the entrance.
Van Hatten said a sand volleyball court could be put in north
of City Hall.
Anderson said the final plan should have a hard surface area.
Johnson said he liked the entrance on #1 where it's all one
level overlooking a statue or memorial, have retaining walls
on each side of the triangle. The triangle could be softened.
Midness said in #3 he was creating the image of "Veterans"
Park with the plaza effect.
Anderson asked the Prak Board how they felt about the ponding.
Van Hatten thought a small pond like the one in #2 was nice.
Anderson said a small one would be easier to aerate.
Anderson said if he had a choice he would put the skating
area on grass rather than use the pond. If the large pond
was chosen, the skating would have to be on the pond.
Anderson said we could reverse the ponding to have the larger
portion to the north.
