of St..1rrk~ T~ B aptu~L
835 - 2ND AVENUE NORTHWEST • NEW BRIGHTON. MINNESOTA 55112 • PHONE 633-8333
July 9, 1986
Maurice H. Anderson
Director of Parks and Recreation
1975 Silver Lake Road
New Brighton, Minnesota 55112
Dear Mr. Anderson:
I am glad to hear that you intend to recommend that the city proceed with
plans for the renovation of Veteran's Park. As Sr. Gwendolin, our school
principal, and I indicated when we met with you, and as I stated in my
letter of May 12, 1986 to Mayor Benke, the requests of St. John's Church
and School are really quite modest.
We would hope that the park would continue in its multi-use sCatus, with
adequate sports facilities. We would strongly request, however, that the
ball field be turned around, with the backstop abutting the city hall parking
lot. This would encourage users to park their car in the city lot rather
than in our church lot. We are very concerned about providing adequate
parking for our congregation, and find that the present arrangement places
an unacceptable strain on our parking capacity. If possible, we would like
to see the field laid out in a way that would accomodate soccer in the
fall. We believe a hard-surf aced basketball court would also be a signifi-
cant addition.
Our second major concern relates to the playground equipment. As i noted
in my letter to Mayor. Benke, we hope that the city will appropriate suffic-
ient funds to provide facilities comparable to those in similar city parks.-
We would also hope that the drainage problem would be addressed in a way.
that would provide a dry area for the playground equipment.
Thank you for your consideration throughout this process. Should you have
any questions concerning any of these points, please let me know.
Sincerely,
~a/N~li'1~ht
• Fr. Jerry ieman
JG/pm
cc: Mayor .Benke, Sr. Gwendolin
