a
November 4, 1987 Park Board Minutes
The committee also talked about the trail system.
The Mississippi entrance was better than Poppyseed.
Ken Simons, Ramsey County, admitted the entrance from
Poppyseed would probably be going in at one time or
another regardless of whether the Mississippi
entrance was used.
Carlson said he was told the Mississippi trail is
hoped for this spring.
Anderson said Ramsey County is letting bids right now
for the rest of the trail system (south end). They
hope to have it done by the time the beach opens in
the spring.
Carlson said the Long Lake Advisory Meeting was a
good one but no residents were present.
V. New Business
A. Civic .Center
Anderson said he wasn't sure he included everything
on the civic center information sheet which had been
sent out. He would like to see this go back to the
Council.
Anderson said he saw an article in the paper
regarding space that is available in St. Anthony's
schools.
The City of St. Anthony is negotiating a lease or
purchase agreement with the School District. They
are considering space at Parkview for the Fire
Department. The middle school/high school also has
unused space. There is a beautiful pool, auditorium,
and two gymnasiums. One of the gymnasiums is used
only for wrestling and gymnastics. The equipment is
left up year round. If we are interested in doing
something with a community center outside of New
Brighton, this may be the golden opportunity.
Hopefully, we could arrange it so we could have some
use of the gymnasium and pool.
Kalina said the Latch Key program and basketball are
in the gymnasium and other rooms, would they be
moved?
