October 7, 1987 Park Board Minutes Page 6 Anderson said Shoreview built a gym onto Turtle Lake School. It seems to make a lot of sense. Shoreview Park and Recreation and school district funds were used in the project. It never would have happened if the political forces wouldn't have pushed. Williams said that one facility that may have room is the old elementary school in St. Anthony. St. Anthony purchased it from the School District. Seward said perhaps the Korean Church should be purchased back. Olson said unless we can prove there is a real need, don't see how we can go forward. Johnson said if you are talking just New Brighton, I agree, but if other communities are involved I think there is a possibility. Seward thinks New Brighton could continue to pursue this; the purchase of Korean Church or the school in St. Anthony. Williams asked if the Park Board could explore if there are needs out there. Anderson said every group will say they need more space but when you ask them if they would support a bond issue, the answer is usually no. Williams said the big question is what is it we need? Eichers said the actual building would probably be cheaper than maintaining it; that's where the cost comes in. Think the shared idea is good. Anderson said he can talk to staff and see if any other communities would show interest. Williams said he would like to see a report on the findings from the Park Boards look at other community centers. Anderson said he would do a report and bring it back to the, next Park Board meeting. North Entrance to Long Lake Park MOTION BY JOHNSON, SECONDED BY BLOMQUIST, FOR APPROVAL OF A NORTH ENTRANCE TO LONG LAKE PARK CONNECTING FROM POPPYSEED TO EXPEDITE A NORTH ENTRANCE AS LONG AS THE PLANS FOR A MISSISSIPPI CROSSING ARE NOT DROPPED.
