May 6, 1987 Park Board Minutes Page 2
Williams said he had a citizen complaint. The
homeowners on 17th are getting a petition together
regarding the dandelions and weeds in the area. Have
complained and were not satisfied with the reasons for
not mowing or taking care of the weeds.
Anderson said the department is working on weed control.
At the park meeting last year the residents expressed
concern that the mowing wasn't being done up to the
pond. There was no good reason why we should but we have
good reason why we shouldn't. We were instructed by the
City Council some years ago to reduce all non-essential
mowing. This instruction has never been lifted.
B. Long Lake Advisory Committee
Johnson said they went over the park plans. The boat
launch was discussed. Plans will be to the Park Board
in June.
Carlson said he did not get a notice of-the meeting.
Johnson said the trails in Long Lake Park have been set
as a lower priority.
Anderson said he remembers the Long Lake Advisory
Committee and the Park Board expressing their desire
to make the trails a priority. Anderson said he thought
everyone made it clear that the south trails were a
priority. and should be done immediately.
Ken Simons of Ramsey County stated the county staff
decided the south trail was a lower priority than the
large picnic area. He said the county wanted to develop
the inside trials first and the outside trails last.
Anderson reminded Simons that the Park Board and Long
Lake Advisory Committee wanted the outside trails
done first. Simons responded that the county wanted
to do what the public wanted and Ramsey County has had
numerous requests for the large group picnic area to be
completed.
Anderson said the trails are something people won't
request but are high priority.
Van Hatten said you'd get more use on the trails in one
day than a picnic area in a week.
Anderson said the park use would climb immediately if
the trails were in.
