January 7, 1986 Park Board Minutes Page 4
B. Pat Synan, Beautification Program
Pat stated she was interested in gardening and
beautification. Her first intention was to
do something at all the parks but realized that
that was too big an undertaking
She discussed the purpose of the project, the
groups that would be involved, how the gardens
would be cared for, the types of gardens that
could be started. The types of gardens that
could be started were:
-Container gardens
-Perennial gardens
-Herb gardens
-Wild Flower
-Rose
-Bulb & Perennial mix
-Wet Lands
-Small Fruit
-Large Fruit
Pat discussed each of these and what they would
consist of. She showed the Park Board an idea
she had for a Centennial Garden. It was star
shaped and had the NB symbol with 1887-1987
in the middle. The NB symbol and numbers would
be done in green(parsley) with the border done
in red.
Pat said her two main concerns for this year were
a Centennial Garden and something at Veterans Park.
Anderson said that it will not be possible to do
anything at Veterans this year. because there is no
money. Landscaping will be done around City Hall.
this spring. Also Vets will be very wet.
Pat asked if the ponding at Vets will help the wet-
ness.
Anderson said not much.
Pat said then the container gardens may be good.
Pat said she would like to let the Lions know how
they can help financially.
