January 7, 1987 Park Board Minutes
Page 7
An additional item we are thinking about as part of
Arbor Day is designating a tree as a City Tree. For
instance we could designate a spruce for 1987 and get
some 2" spruce trees donated and we would give them
away to any resident who wanted one.
Eichers said you could probably get the trees from
the University of Minnesota.
Anderson asked for comments on the landscape plan.
Johnson said he didn't like the line of spruces
along the parking lot.
Anderson said they block the view of the parking lot.
Johnson said he didn't the parking lot needed to be
blocked because it sits below the embankment.
Olson and Carlson said they liked the spruce..
Anderson said he will talk to Bill Midness about the
spruces.
Johnson said he heard that you should never plant in
even numbers in case something doesn't grow or dies,
it will not look conspicuous.
Williams agreed with Johnson that the screening of
the parking lot may not be necessary. People looking
far it may have a hard time seeing it. .The entrance
should be accentuated. The danger in planting like
that is the question of what happens if something
dies.
Eichers asked if the plan was shown with .mature
plantings.
Anderson said good size stock will be used in
planting. About 15-16' trees.
VI. Old Business
None
VII. Announcements
An invitation to the Park Board's Christmas Party was
handed out.
