September 7, 1994 New Brighton Pazk Boazd Minutes
V. New Business
A. Silver Oak Planning.
Anderson gave the history of the pazk. In 1977 or '78 the City had a
discussion with the St. Anthony School Boazd about updating the play
equipment. A play wood structure was installed. The ball field was
upgraded. In about 1980 the School District decided to sell the
property. There was a three way discussion between the School
District, the developer; Jake Cadwallader, and the City. Around 1970
had received a grant to put in two tennis courts. The courts aze on
private (the developer's) property. An agreement was made that the
courts remain on his. property until he decides to develop. The
agreement was that when he developed the property, the tennis courts
would be relocated onto park property at the developer's expense.
Because of the grant for the tennis courts, they must be put on the pazk
site.
There is a 60 foot strip of property that the Pazk Board has
recommended be sold to the developer. The property will probably be
used by the developer for parking. It is a steep slope.
Resident Jerry Renk, 1931 3rd St. SW, inquired if the developer would
be developing the property to the west of the tennis court. Anderson
said yes.
Resident George Zurbey, 1801 3rd St. SW, asked how much the City
would get for the property and suggested the City keep it and use it for
pazking. Anderson said the property has been appraised at $45,000.
The developer wants to have his own appraisal done, he believes the
appraisal came in too high.
Resident Mazy Catroneo, 1827 3rd St. SW, inquired about the City
using that strip of land for parking. Anderson said it could be looked
at.
A resident asked if both tennis courts had to stay in the park, if so do
they have to stay together or could they be split up. Put one by the
ball field and one by the basketball court.
Anderson said we have to keep both courts but they could be split up.
A resident said the azea that has been leveled for the tennis courts has
been used for football and soccer. Could you put the soccer and
hockey in the lower area?
Anderson said we can't get equipment up there. Maybe we could get
an easement from the condo parking lot. Partial hockey boards (at both
ends could be put up. Then the .rink may be used more. It should be
noted that there can't be a hockey rink and grass (soccer field) in the
same area. Grass will not grow where there is an ice rink.
