September 7, 1994 New Brighton Park Board Minutes
3
Anderson said he likes the idea of putting the tennis court in the picnic
area. Think it would fit. Like adding parking. Can't find a good area
for skating.
A resident said if there is a rink there, the kids will use it (himself
included.)
Anderson said we .could keep the hockey rink where it is and put up
end sections of hockey boards. If there aze boards and goals, maybe
the kids would brave the weather.
Resident Mary Jo Odegazd, 1946 3rd St. NW, commented that the
hardest part about skating is there are only metal benches. No warm
place to put skates on. There aze no bathrooms. Could there be
bathrooms and a place to change skates.
Anderson said a Satellite could be put up there.
Mary Catroneo agreed that the kids need a bathroom.
A resident said if a road could be put in and tennis courts that would be
ideal.
A resident said you can't change skates in a Satellite. The kids still
have to trudge up the hill. Even if .you put up something like a bus
shelter at the bottom of the hill, that would help.
Another resident asked how long it takes to put up and take down a full
set of hockey boards.
Mike Walker, Parks Superintendent, said it takes 2 days with 3 people
to take a rink down and 3 days to put it up.
Knuth inquired of the residents if there was a lot of support for the
tennis courts at the pazk.
A resident said there is someone at the condos that tells kids the courts
are private and for the condo residents only.
A resident asked what the time frame is for the developer.
Anderson said the developer wants to restart the project. Something
will probably happen within the next yeaz. The courts will probably be
gone from their current location within a year.
