September 7, 1994 New Brighton Pazk Boazd Minutes
4
Anderson said he had a request from the Silver Oaks residents to
update the playground equipment. Money was in the budget for 1996
and residents asked if it could be moved to 1995. About $35,000 is
budgeted. About $25,000 will be used on playground renovation. The
neighbors had talked about raising money to put towazd the equipment.
The City will match that. We could regrade the site or put up a small
shelter but it is not likely to put up a permanent shelter because of
topography and financial constraints.
B. Resident George Zurbey asked the likelihood of getting this money
moved to 1995. He said he would be upset if it didn't happen because
he is a St. Anthony School District resident and was upset when the
Council gave $10,000 to Irondale for their tennis courts. Think it's
wrong to have used his money to fund that project.
Mary Catroneo said she feels the same way.
Anderson said we need to get the tennis court location resolved first
and then talk about the other items.
Resident Sandy Hermeyer, 1850 3rd St. SW, said the park needs safe
play equipment. Pazents have to watch their children cazefully. The
equipment is very outdated. Would like nice equipment like equipment
near Wexford Heights. Would like something safe and fun.
Resident Paul Englund, 389 Oakwood, inquired if the contractor would
get the 60 foot section of property. Anderson said if the City wants it,
we keep it.
A resident inquired if any thought had been given to fencing people's
back yards. Balls go into back yazds on occasion.
Anderson said we have a tradition of not fencing. Homeowners could
fence their own property. Would rather do something up near the
problem area.
A resident said he lives right behind the ball field, it is not a problem.
Resident Nancy Ochschlager, 357 Oakwood Drive, commented about
the possibility of limiting street parking.
Anderson said most attempts at limiting parking backfire for the people
who want it. If restrictions are put on a street, you must realize those
restrictions are also for you to abide by.
A resident stated that if the parking would be on top, it would alleviate
the problem.
Williams asked which side of the street you would want restricted. The
residents responded the pazk side.
