September 7, 1994 New Brighton Park Board Minutes
5
Resident Mary Jo Erdmon, 1957 3rd St. SW, said it would be nice to
have shelter by the tennis courts. It would be nice if the trees could be
moved.
Anderson said if we are doing a new plan for the park, we can do a
new planting plan also. This park was never planned, it was pieced
together.
Knuth asked if there was any possibility of doing a land exchange with
the developer or the condo. Anderson agreed that would be a good
idea.
Resident GaVae .Pederson, 350 Oakwood Dr. , expressed concern that
the picnic azea gets used for teens to drink. Also concern because the
hill is steep and you can't see any distance. Concern that kids will not
be seen by people driving; especially the people that are not familiar
with the area. She asked the Park Board to please be concerned about
this matter.
Williams said if the grade is too steep, the parking won't fit so the
property could be sold and the proceeds could be used for the park.
Anderson said he would like to work with the developer to get an
easement.
Knuth asked the residents if they wanted no tennis courts or one or two
courts.
Anderson said it would be tough to work it out because of the grant
used to put the courts in with.
Knuth asked if they could get by with one.
Resident George Zurbey stated he preferred the tennis courts to a
shelter.
A resident asked if the developer would still have to pay for two courts
if only one was moved.
Anderson thought he would. The issue is, is the community willing to
change to one court.
Williams said he would like to respond to George Zurbey's comments
about moving money for Silver Oaks to the 1995 budget. The Council
looks to the Park Board and other commissions for their
recommendations in matters like these before they make their decision.
Williams stated he too lives in the St. Anthony School District. The
Council makes decisions on a city-wide basis.
