Committee Reorganization
Page 2
As part of this discussion, the council would like to examine the advantages and
disadvantages of identified alternatives within each of these factors.
THE PROCESS
When the committee organizational questions, issues, and concerns were laid alongside the
City's current goals,
-assuring clean, well-kept physical surroundings,
-fostering safe, cohesive neighborhoods, and
-being leaders in developing a vital and compatible business community,
the council and staff suggested an alternative committee structure. The plan reduces the
number of advisory committees from nine to seven. At this time, the council would like to
get feedback from all ,committee members on the feasibility and merits of this organizational
structure. All comments would be taken into consideration before reorganizing the
committee structure.
The manager and assistant to the manager will utilize February 15th through March 15th to
visit each committee. They will present this plan to the committee members and document
thoughts and suggestions. This information will be formulated into a report and brought to a
worksession of council, staff, and committee chairs for refinement and conclusion on
missions and objectives of each committee. Decisions will be formalized by council and
likely enacted as part of the 1995 committee appointment process.
REORGANIZED COI\~iMITTEE CONCEPT
Advisory boards and commissions that continue with little change:
Cable Advisory Commission/Committee
Changes:
-possible future focus on telecommunications and technology issues in
partnership with EDC
Economic Development Commission
Changes:
-possible future focus on telecommunications and technology .issues in
partnership with EDC
-some role in future comprehensive planning
Planning Commission
Changes:
-Chair. becomes member of EDC
-Create Housing subcommittee
-More frequent examination and review of long range planning issues
-Updates of Comprehensive Plan becomes ad-hoc subcommittee
New boards and commissions that address Citesgoals:
