June 2, 1993 Pazk Boazd Minutes
Anderson said this year there is a Girl Scout Troop that is taking care
of the flowers by the water tower.
It was suggested that the Adopt a Park be put on the agenda for
September.
E. Irondale Tennis Courts
Roger Rao, a parent concerned about the number of tennis courts at
Irondale was present.
5
Rao explained that the six tennis courts at Irondale are being taken
out. The School District plans on replacing four of the courts. Rao is
asking if the City would fund two of the courts so that they could still
have six and the City could use the courts for their programs. Mounds
View High School is in the same conference. They have six courts. If
the Park Board could come up with 520,000, the School District
would match the rest.
Carlson asked if the Park and Rec. Dept. used the courts.
Anderson responded yes. They are used by the community. We don't
have the money budgeted but the City will usually match funds by
others putting up money.
Construction is only 2-3 weeks away. Would like to get it on next
Tuesday's Council Agenda.
Carlson asked the cost.
Anderson said John Ostlund thought it would be about 520,000.
Eichers expressed his concern about it. Felt it was too short of a
notice.
Anderson said during prime time, the courts are used to the max. We
are going to the School Board to go in on the Family Center.
Politically, it may be a smart thing to do.
Olson said we have a history of other joint projects with the School
District.
Anderson said they had been used for our Social Tennis program until
they got so bad. They serve the community.
Carlson said he is concerned that we don't put six courts in only
because Mounds View has six. We need to show a need.
Ocel inquired if anyone can go to the Council and ask for money.
