June 2, 1993 Park Board Minutes
D. Adopt a Park
Anderson said he hasn't had much success with volunteers.
Carlson asked if the City can make signs.
Anderson said the ones we do are not very permanent.
Anderson mentioned the volunteer recognition dinner coming up at
Hansen.
Carlson. thought there could be a sign in the park recognizing the
people who had volunteered.
Ocel said it could also be put in the "New Brighton Bulletin."
Kinzie suggested advertising the "Adopt a Park" program by
distributing flyers in the neighborhood.
Anderson said he would like to have a program in place before
information goes out.
Ocel asked if having this program will cost us money.
Anderson said it probably wouldn't save us any but to have people
have ownership of a park would be worth it.
Anderson suggested that a process be started to design sign and
massage these ideas into a program.
Trevorrow thought a suggestion box might help.
Anderson said employees are given a stack of surveys to be handed
out to people using the parks. A benefit is you get employees talking
to residents.
4
Anderson thought that the Park Board members might get together to
brainstorm. If it is left on his desk it won't get done for quite a while.
Ocel suggested the fall.
Helgeson suggested doing feelers and find out what kind of things the
volunteers could do.
Anderson said a laundry list could be started; plant trees, flower beds,
wrapping and unwrapping trees.
Ocel thought maybe even handwork could be done at the parks like
trimming. around trees..
