NEW BRIGHTON PARK BOARD
MINUTES
DECEMBER 2, 1992
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 by Chair Olson
II. Members present: Eichers, Helgeson, Kalina, Kinzie, Ocel, Olson
Rose, Trevorrow
Absent: Carlson, Knuth, Benke
III. MOTION BY KINZIE, SECONDED BY ETCHERS, TO APPROVE THE
OCTOBER 7, 1992 MINUTES AS SUBMITTED.
IV. Correspondence
A. Council Report
Anderson stated Mayor Benke was not present because he was
attending the Silver Lake Road Improvement meeting. Anderson
reported that the Silver Lake Road second hearing has been completed
with action delayed until January. The Silver Lake Road improvement
is at no cost to the city, it is Ramsey County's project. Approval was
given by the New Brighton City Council. It is a very controversial
subject on how and if Silver Lake Road should be re-designed.
B. Multi-City Senior Center
The Task Force decided on the Anoka County (Fridley) site.
To build a new building on the Fridley site (2 million dollars) is almost
the same cost as remodeling the site at the Rice Creek Center (1.8
million dollars).
The Fridley site is much more attractive. It is "woodsy" and the head
of a trail system. Informational meetings on the Senior Center will
probably will be held Jan. 13 & 14; Jan. 27 & 28.
Rose reported that the New Brighton Seniors showed much more
interest in the senior center when it was proposed for the Rice Creek
location. (They feared losing Kelly Schultz as their leader!)
Fridley people are likely to build a center whether this project goes or
not, so they are really in favor of the Fridley site.
Fundina for the Senior Center
Still to be decided by the four cities on how they will do it or if a
referendum is needed.
There is a possibility that New Brighton and Fridley put up the money.
Spring Lake Park and Mounds View would pay back.
