October 7, 1992 Park Board Minutes
A resident stated there is no need for something on every inch of land -
keep it natural as much as possible.
Anderson said a planting plan would be included with the next plan
presented to citizens. There will be input from the forester for plantings.
Residents would like a tree screen from businesses nearby.
Anderson described his basic plan for the park as one similar to what the
residents expressed. Pond, walking path, open play area, 1 tennis court,
berm, parking lot, small shelter, small hard court area for basketball.
Design it primarily for kids.
4
A Park Board member suggested looking at Briarwood or Briardale between
Rice. Creek Road and 61st near Fridley. It is of similar size and space.
Benke suggested keeping in mind the teenage population.
The next plan would be ready late winter; January or February -maybe
later. It will come to the Park Board again after more drawings by
Engineering.
A resident suggested the walkways not be paved.
Benke stated we .would want the park to be handicap accessible.
East entrance -paved path for maintenance, safety, strollers, elderly.
Trevorrow asked about bike access.
Trails would likely be paved (walkways as well as bikeways).
Residents were concerned about paved trails through back yards -they
preferred grass.
Anderson said nothing will be done without further discussion with
residents. Trees can be moved too. It's your park.
The neighborhood has block party the Saturday after Labor Day -maybe
the Park Board can come next year to discuss- park plans.
Residents felt that their fears had been somewhat allayed.
Anderson asked residents to call him with ideas no matter how unusual.
The question was asked if the berm is a Parks and Recreation problem or a
developer's problem: It is the developer's problem with guidelines from Park
& Rec as to where the excavator does the grading. The berm site could be
painted to show how much the excavator should remove. The result will
be that the land is graded to a certain elevation with a berm. The
developer will put the pond in. The grading plan has been changed with
the new berm plan.
