April 18, 1991 Park Board Minutes
5
Gunderman said it doesn't have to be something negative.
It is fun to plan and do this.
Anderson said that the City Manager and himself have had
discussions with Spring Lake Park, Mounds View and
Fridley regarding a joint senior citizen center.
Fridley has the money to build but they are concerned
about the on-going costs. If it is done jointly, we
could do a lot for the seniors that we had hoped to do
with the community center. We would rely on the needs
assessment that was done for the community center.
Johnson said this is a bad time economically to do
something like this.
Seward said he doesn't know if he wants to get involved
with another community center item this soon.
Anderson said so far staff is simply exploring options.
C. Development St. Mary's/Harstad Property
Anderson said this is the property west of Minar Ford.
Developer wants to put in something less dense than the
Trammel Crow proposal. Anderson told him it would have
to come back to the Park Board. Anderson said the
department has had pressure to do something for soccer.
This could be an appropriate site for that. Anderson
said they are talking about construction starting late
this summer.
Seward commented that the Police Department had their
mission statement in one of the City Newsletters. He
felt it would be nice if the Park Board did something
like that.
Barb Kalina expressed thanks to the Park Board for the
support she and her family received after her husband's
death.
IV.
