January 2, 1991 Park Board Minutes
5
Anderson stated that some of the equipment could be modified.
The playground equipment supplier (Game Time) said they have been
doing this more frequently in the last two years. Before we put
it in the CIP we will have a representative from the playground
equipment supplier here and we will know exactly what the costs
will be.
Anderson said he would like a recommendation from the Park Board.
Olson said we could acknowledge that we received the information
from the Human Rights Commission and that the Park Board believes
there is a need for some modification and we will monitor it.
Johnson feels this should be done along with the CIP.
Van Hatten said as a general motion we could go on record as
favoring the concept.
Johnson felt uncomfortable with that before knowing how much
money will be needed.
Olson agreed that costs would need to be known before anything
could be done.
Carlson suggested approving the concept that the equipment be
both handicap accessible and usable.
Olson commented that the Council minutes state that the Park
Board review and include this in the upcoming CIP.
Carlson said the Human Rights Commission has already agreed on
the concept that there be handicapped accessibility to the play
equipment at Hansen.
Anderson said the process was that the Human Rights Commission
met in November. The minutes went to the City Council in
December and the copy of the cover letter we received went with
it.
Johnson feels that the Park .Board should acknowledge that the
letter was received and discuss the handicap accessibility with
the CIP.
Van Hatten said that does not state our intention which is that
we would like to provide handicap accessibility to the playground
equipment.
